All artists and vendors involved in the project donated their time to the cause and ALL proceeds from New Orleans Relief downloads, t-shirt and poster sales will be donated directly to Tipitina's Foundation and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation.
When Hurricane Katrina battered the Gulf Coast a few weeks ago, donating the proceeds from Phish's Jazzfest performance in 1996 seemed the perfect way for the band and their fans to help bring the city's mojo full circle. In true New Orleans fashion, the beauty and joy of music can uplift spirits and help support the city's incredible network of artists and musicians.
Phish played the Ray Ban Stage just before The Funky Meters

Jazz Fest ‘96 was my first Phish show! I listened to it again yesterday for my 27 year anniversary and was reminded why I fell in love with this band and have never looked back! This is the show that changed my life and my direction as a musician. Hundreds of shows later for me they continue to evolve, delight, and kill it over and over. Please never stop guys! I will always hold a special place in my heart for listening to this great performance!

Lost it when I heard the Theme from Barney Miller at the start to Possum. A contender for one of the best all time television theme songs. So many little Easter eggs in the Possum. Lots of fun!!

Yeah, I couldn't imagine why the so called laid back people of the crescent city would get angry about a bunch of out of towners pissing in their backyard instead of finding an actual bathroom. It's called respect and common courtesy dipshit.

Love the Hood, dually dig the Michael Ray jams. Ya Mar and YEM are choice as well

anyone notice the track listing is off on this one? Am I doing something wrong...?? Tiptina's is tight.....

Excited to download this. I've had the '96 show for a number of years and always was fond of this version of Ya Mar. It's my FAV Ya Mar ever due to it's "island" feel....rum, sun glasses, ganja, hay now!!

buy this for the philler. Being that it's the first gig of '96 the fella's are a little sloppy. There are some highlights like the CTB with Michael Ray but for the most part its average (which as we all know is better than anything else out there) The philler however is bad ass. Live Phish, please add more 91 to your catalog! Again, its worth the 13$ for the 2nd set at tipitina's.

Since this was my first show, I'm a bit partial, but it was amazing! :) Thank you for sharing this & for donating the proceeds.
The set was short but on fire. Loved the a cappella version of Wolfman's Brother sequed out of the YEM vocal jam! So many highlights here, too many to list. Michael Ray adds a nice dimension.
The filler is excellent, as well. Love ARU...it was nice hearing them play with you guys. Keep the great shows coming!
When can we look forward to video from this? :D

Check Out the Wolfman`s into Scent of a Mule sweet acapella transition.

Awesome show. I was there and very into Phish at the time. Travelled from Athens, Georgia. I also travelled to the Clifford Ball a few months later. Where are those tapes? I have never heard them. And then there was Halloween `96.

Started this journey from Georgia at 3AM after coaching my high school baseball team to a big `V`. Arrived in New Orleans mid day, about 2 hours pre-Phish. Thanks Mr. Ritlinbud for those killer directions. The place was swamped with Phish Pholk doin their thing, which caused some ruckus amongst those folks that are supposedly so laid back that they can`t tolerate some of the shaninigans like pissin in people`s backyards. Anyway, the show rocked, it sucked people in from all the different venues, word from the copters was that they had seen no mass of people around a stage like that before. The music was dead on as always and segueyed out and into a phenomenal Meters set. 1996 was a great year for Phish. JazzFest, `Remain in Light` at the Omni, these were golden years for THE band. I`m glad they plaid Stash, you gotta have at least one song like that so that people who aren`t familiar with em get socked in the face with the slam dunk wirey funkness.

this is a good concert. I saw the very last one in vermont and it was so full of emotion. I only saw them once before at a free concert at the Florida Bandshell Gainesville, Fl in oct `95 and that sold me. This reminds me of that. DGB

Imagine a gaggle of kids + 2 dogs in a van all the way from Burlington into Nawlins just to catch one set of Phish... i really had no idea what else i was in for with Jazzfest....everyone for from the Meters to my only B.B. King show..Thanks for leading me there boys..
One thing i thought was noteworthy that i never hear mention of was at the last final CRACK and note of Cavern the sky opened up instantaniously and poured refreshing cool rain on the sweaty audience..
This show was TOO fun, even if it only was one set..

Beautiful sunny day... PoBoys for lunch...
Phish set began at 3:10pm or so. Harry Hood started at exactly 4:20. JazzFest 96 was so much fun... Thank you New Orleans and thank you Phish!

I think the sound quality from the first show is significantly better than the filler show. I especially like the wolfman`s brother despite its shortness. Great show!

to add to my review i think it is great that they did this for new orleans cause this brooklyn kid loves norleans much love to all of louisiana we`re all praying for you wonderful people
patphish
Did anyone else notice that the sound quality was significantly worse than typical LivePhish? Good setlist.

I was at this show, and it was an amazing experience! It was my first exposure to jambalya, crawfish and New Orleans. I will always remember New Orleans from this trip, and not what it must be today.
Its great to have a true studio quality version of this life event, and what a great cause!
bill
flew down to catch the show from boston cause it was the only spring show.
It was a classic. Went back quit my job and moved to new orleans.
My only regret was the lack of shows available to me down there.
Thanks for making this show available.
