5/31/2009 Fenway Park, Boston, MA

clear unusual form  (7/30/2009 6:45:02 AM)

Why are these recordings -- from Hampton '09 to Alpine '09 -- so thin, distant, AM radio-like? Listen to nearly any other pre-'09 download available here and the sound is forthright, immediate, present, and full. These tapes sound like they were recorded with a mic outside of the venue...wrapped in cellophane. Will the '09 tapes be remixed? When they are, will the new mixes be made available to those who've already paid to download?

I'm upset because I've just purchased this show and five of the songs would not download no matter how many times I try. I can't listen to part of a show! Where's the contact? Can I get any help?

I was at this show on the field and had a great time. As a lifelong Red Sox fan and a longtime Phishphan who was turned away at Coventry and extremely disapponted by the 2004 ending, this was exactly what I needed to get me back.

Fun show, great setlist, this Fenway Park show was my 86th believe it or not. From the Star Spangled Banner opener to Tweezer reprise, I had a great time and am looking forward to the 3 day Halloween festy.

To me the soundboard recording doesn't sound as bad as Hampton, but perhaps a close second, it makes it so difficulty to judge what the show really sounded like if you weren't there with these soundboard recordings.

Opps I meant " the three nights at Nikon" not these* Fenway proves to be the type of in between performance which is loaded with good tunes picked out, but again, very reminiscent of 2004. Don't know about dude who made the comment but I do play guitar and YEM does have sections where without the proper percussion and rhythm it is difficult to hold down the timing. However Trey knows how to do it with his eyes closed, and when you hear some notes being missed it is just incredibly sad and means that his energy is not in the right place, nor his mind. It doesn't happen to often though. The sound quality again is becoming an issue for me. I just don't know what it is.

Well mostly other peoples opinions have always been positive about PHISH, that is, unless they are mainstream alternative and grunge rock listeners. These 3 nights at Nikon have proved once again the boys can hold a steady groove, play the intricate structured parts of their songs and of course continuing improvising in an exploratory nature.

Wasn't at the show. Heard the DL and like it a lot. The Stash execution of the composed section had me thinking 94 for a minute! :) So different from 03-04 where they clearly hadn't practiced much before NYE/Hampton comeback.

I didn't actually get to see them until Deer Creek, but I found this to be a pretty solid comeback effort. I like the new songs (and I NEVER used to like the new songs!).

As to the dude who made the comment about YEM being "hard to screw up", I gotta ask....do you PLAY guitar or know anything about the instrument?? The beginning arpeggio section is a friggin nightmare LOL....see Hampton 2003 when they hadn't practiced it enough.

I find the new flavor of phish as an odd sort of hybrid of 97-98ish page with 03-04ish Trey. Unfortunately (and this plagues the whole tour) Mike is turned down so low we can't hear him to really judge. I'm sure he's playing his ass off; too bad we can't hear it.

PEOPLE FOR A LOUDER MIKE.........time for a comeback IMO. :) Oh yeah, and bring the cow-funk back at least for Moma Dance...I don't think Trey has even used his wah pedal yet lol
