" Fantastic Voyage A good show was expected, however, a great show occurred. The performance a cacophony of jammin’ funk, soulful covers and densely layered rhythms. This show had it all, and left us all so satisfied. The 9:30 club just crowded enough to serve as a warm respite from the frigid DC night. Familiar faces mingled in a chill vibe with ear-to-ear grins of anticipation. So laidback in fact that Page casually mingled in the crowd with drink in hand to check out Jazz Mandolin and Fishman during their complex and enjoyable opening set. The commando Vida-Spam-Allstar crew’s arrival with ‘Most Events’ started the crowd rotor whirling as we were given clearance for a flawless lift-off. Now in orbit and at the proper altitude they dropped a bad-a$$ funk-bomb with ‘Popeye’s’>‘Just kissed my Baby’ instructing the crowd to “just light it up, and take a puff”. Settle down now because it is time to head south into the Miami rhythm that is Allstar Spam served up ‘Ochimini’ style. Very nice and let’s just say the butts were shaking. Where to go, but with Page control, and a little ‘CJ3’ that took on a glowing new life with the Allstars’ horns and afro-Cuban beats. We have just reached our first peak. John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’ sung with souful conviction by Page gently rocked us back to earth. A true gem but the party ain’t near done. So they said dance foolish freaks with ‘Little Miami’ that showcased Oteil’s driving bass. ‘Final Flight’ slowly built a big sky angelic atmosphere in which to explore during an 18 minute ‘Russell’s Tune’ bringing to a close a penetrating and provoking monster set. Page returned alone to his baby grand to deliver our final treats. His own composition ‘Army of One’ followed by an intimate ‘Lawn Boy’ with the help of Jamie Mansfield (JMP). Finally, all hands returned to the stage for a colossal rendition of Zeppelin’s ‘No Quarter’ to bring a fantastic evening of exploratory music to a passionate end. (Vida Blue + Spam Allstars = fantastic voyage…tell your friends). "

"don`t believe everything you read. page was not solo for lawn boy; jamie helped out too. a great night at a cool club (even if it is owned by clear channel) with a talented and fun band. thanks, page et al."

"First Vida Blue show, so I can`t compare it to seeing just the three of them. What I can say is that the horns add more depth to the already full pot bubbling over with talent. Oteil is by far one of the best bass players I`ve seen (next to Wooten) and Baptiste proves that drumming is genetic (i theory of mine since my mother and I are both drummers). To see Page as a band leader is odd and wonderfull because he can control the motion of the arm but the brush strokes come from everybody. The venue was perfect, nice little club in the wrong part of town. Jazz Mandolin was a great opener. Mansfield`s forearm is the most anotomically correct forearm I`ve ever seen and his ability to pic shows why. I saw Sam Bush the day after and was let down, probably because I spoiled myself the night before. I had seen them before with their last drummer and they blew me away, but Fishman had a calm control that made every beat seem like the perfect one. I`m sure he`s glad to be with these guys again. Got to chat with him during the set break and I think that these gigs are a great way for the two of them to wind down and just have some fun at their own pace after the rigorous four-day Miami stretch. The No Quarter closer was insane and the two Page solos came out of no where. Jealous Guy is always one of those makes-ya-misty sort of numbers a) because lyrically it hit home and b)I know the Page absolutley loves John Lennon. The Oteil features are worth the price of admission, which safe it say was practically nothing. I had some friends that I met in Miami follow these guys up the coast after New Years. I bet they had a blast. "

"After having an embarassing starstruck experience due to an unexpected encounter at popeye`s with page and oteil...... My friend and I really enjoyed Jazz Mandolin and I was blown away by vida blue with the spam all-stars! That set had everyone moving! Russel was on fire and Oteil produced some sick grooves! Page going into l`n boy was superb! And No Quarter was equally mind-blowing. The grooving was intense throughout and i was feelin the harmonic bliss! "
