"This tweezer is a perfect example of what's wrong with looking at setlists and judging them without listening. With both a relatively short duration and a not necessarily rare but at least not entirely normal first set placement, this seems "on paper" (as much to my chagrin people like to say) to he a tweezer that's easily passed by for some 20 minute second set opening version. I have to admit even I had the thought pass through my mind. But give it a listen. No greatest ever version here or anything but just one of many unique and excellent jaunts into longform improv that the amazing vehicle Tweezer has provided us over the years. This jam, when it gets to it's best parts, cascades down on you with polyrhythmic waves. undulating and shimmering with page and treys beautiful interplay and loops while bouncing with mikes bass-all of this on top of the groovy soup of fishmans polyrhythms. Much of this is driven by mike-which is only possible because trey comps and provides subtle color in the background for much of the jam. Taking the lead for brief moments when needed and deftly stepping back in "musical space" to allow room for pages keys or mikes booming beefcake basslines. Remember this was the year of the "whale call" (which I personally like and is really nothing new: simply a slight twist on treys normal whammy 2 pedal-work) so listen for tightly woven, slightly dissonant pitch bending notes that drive to blissful peaks. A nice call and response section occurs about 2/3 way thru the jam when trey starts to lock in some loops and take a firmer grasp on reins with a number of staccato chromatic runs, emphasized as ever by constant wildy experimental pitch bending. The key here is mikes bass never let's down from the intensity it had when it was leading the jam- a fact which makes the whole climax that much more enjoyable. So sure , they could have gone longer....and it could have started the second set. But would I want it any other way? Nope. Peace"

"Saw both these shows. Remembered them as being great at the show but was concerned they wouldn't translate to tape in the car etc. Def wrong on that front. Great all around. So happy I caught these two. I remember how excited the crowd was with meatstick opener. It was just sick. I got my first meatstick at IT but this might be just as memorable. And regarding the ongoing vet. Vs. newb. battle. Musical yoda or whatever his name is Absolutely posted the coolest post I think I've ever read on these boards. It's older phans like that who remind me of what I thought I loved about this community. I guess it's just that negatoids seem to overly populate these boards and this creates the appearance of them representing a larger percentage of the fanbase as a whole than they actually do. I remember how kind people were to me as a newb in the late nineties and id hope that I'm being the same way to new phans today and I hope others consider this as well. Peace pholks. Peace. "

"Best Kill Devil Falls and Meatstick I've heard. Divided Sky after Meatstick and Camel Walk.....PRICELESS. Great, fun show. Finally, a hollar out to all you old Heads who seem to be choking on your own bile. Get a sandwich board and walk the streets with '97-'98 on your placard. The back can read "The End is Near" or something like that. Get a life."
