"I love how @can be good bitches about the three show tour opener at bethel and said he'd be skipping it cuz it would be rusty crap. Guess that one didn't turn out too well for you.' Frankly 2010 in Worcester has been the start of a new Trend:' little to no rustiness during tour opening runs etc. -' as opposed to the past. But serious bethel 2011 all three were amazing. I mean blossom and Michigan shows prob top bethel but all three bethels were amazing and didn't seem like rusty tour openers at all!"

"Anyone who wants to see how much of a classical acoustic guitar master trey is just go to the trey and Don hart orchestral album on livephish here titled Time turns elastic orchestral and then go to bottom and play the bonus track which is the original 13 minute acoustic demo tape which the orchestration is based on. It's a one take recording-no dubbing. And then come back and say trey needs sonic interference to make his "poor " guitar work sound good. God the guy was voted in top 30 of Rolling Stones greatest classic rock guitarists of all time. I mean obviously he's better than a ton of the people mentioned ahead of him but for having no radio hits basically and very little mainstream exposure it's a testament to just how much of a revered and LEGIT guitar god trey IS that he was even mentioned in a classic rock list. Ironically jerry (in top five I believe he was) was also ranked way more respectably than I expected due to peoples lack of understanding of how good he was usually. But they got it right on that one making him high up there. And duane allman too. He usually gets shafted and put below Clapton but Clapton will tell u himself duane was the better guitarist . The guitar lines evryone loves from Layla are duane not Eric! It's so funny how few people truly know that outside of classic rock afficianados. Anyway peaceout all. "

"Soooo cool when the crowd starts singing during bdtnl. It will turn the song into one your singing in your head all day! I love how you can "hear" trey smiling during performances in general. I'm sure any self respecting Phan knows what I'm talking about. He's got such a big, infectious smile it come thru when he sings. And had some very audible smiles whenever the crowd swells up with backing vocals. Love it! "

"Oh yea also anyone hating on the acoustic part of show, how can you not love the crowd participation in bathtub gin and backwards down the number line. I know BDTNL not everyone fav song in phish format but here it's actually really cool and touching how crowd sings backing vocals. Not to mention the lawn boy, and many others really. All around it was just fun and different. If you listen expecting to be wowed like you are with the phish versions of the songs you'll be disappointed, if you give them a chance with nit preconceived judgments you just might be surprised."

"Couple points. This show was excellent. The haters really really need to retire the tired ass old as fuck line about ear urination and runny craps on stage etc....how many times has someone used a variation of that line? Next some clarification is needed after the poster "can be good" posted his ridiculousness. To those of you asking why people who actually like the band they are choosing to listen to -which you callously call"bliss heads"-would care what others post; it is simple really . Human beings like to attain truth in life. And I personally feel the need to correct someone when they say something that's inaccurate in case a new fan comes along and reads these posts and takes it to be a truth. So, correction time: trey anastasio actually did not start as an electric player. He specifically began playing guitar as a child prodigy on acoustic classical guitar. He was a classically trained guitarist way before he ever played electric. And jerry Garcia was not a guitarist at all but a banjo player who then picked up an electric around the same time he picked up an acoustic. And I'm a huge jerry fan, and I love his acoustic work, but honestly if you are a true aficionado of Jerry's guitar playing I'm not sure how you could not know that and also he was often sloppy in his acoustic performances as much as I love them...ever listen to his solo acoustic or jerry and john Kahn duo stuff? I love it absolutely but it wasn't always perfect. Just like trey here after picking up an acoustic after focusing on electric for the last twenty years isn't perfect. Also you must not know much about your TAB history cuz this 2011 tour was supposed to emulate the original TAB format where trey performed an acoustic solo set and then an electric set. Finally another point: I actually was incredibly surprised and satisfied with treys solo performance particularly his singing which I thought would be weak with no other sounds to back it up other than a single guitar. What any listener to this has to remember is what trey said at the beginning of the show-a disclaimer of sorts....we are used to hearing these complicated compositions in their full band format and trey makes a point of telling people it may be a little underwhelming when your just hearing the songs in their original demo format just featuring basic chords. He tells the crowd that he's playing the songs the exact way they were written. So you gotta understand context when u listen to them. There is always gonna be a letdown when your used to this complicated song and there is only one guitar line being played. If trey were playing classic acoustic traditional songs like jerry did I guarantee it wouldn't disappoint, there is nothing trey can't do with a guitar if he chooses to focus on it. Trey is a once in a lifetime prodigy. It's not that he can do no wrong, it's just that I don't feel the need to over criticize every little thing the way some people do. And speaking of how that other poster talked about trey needing Other instruments and sonic interference to sound good? You realize out of all major rock/jazz/blues/jam band acts that trey with phish plays one of the cleanest toned and OUTFRONT guitar sounds in music today! Meaning that it's the exact opposite of what your saying. Yes trey uses effects and is actually probably the most talented effects contol guitarist since Hendrix or Jeff beck, his normal guitar tone is unusually clean and his guitar is so upfront in the mix that it exaggerates every little inflection good and bad so instead of masking errors it actually amplifies them. His languedoc also does this. Whereas most of his contemporaries play easy action/setup guitars like les pauls , sg's and stratstrey plays a guitar that requires the player to be almost twice as perfect as he would have to be on another axe. He could play an SG and get away we all kind of mistakes that are otherwise amplified by his doc'. But it's that quality that also gives his guitar the amazing beastly abilities that it has to help trey achieve greatness and coax sound out of it that would be otherwise impossible. Again a little context is needed. anyway ,I thought his solo performance warts and all was admirable and actually surprisingly good. Also it's funny" can be good "mentions phish tour and how he was gonna skip bethel cuz it was gonna be a shitty tour opener.....how'd that work out for you? Bethel all three nites ended up being tour highlights and great woods was weak! Lol. Idiot. Phish has recently disproved any myths about tour openers not being good(bethel, Worcester a year later, great woods summer of 2014 all great shows with tour highlight moments) If anything as they age I think they are tight during tour openers cuz they have recently practiced and by the end of tour they are more fatigued than in the past. But I digress. Anyway calling people here who like the music bliss heads is stupid really. Why would you be a fan of someone and come to these boards, pay money to go to a show or download one and hate the artist or band? Does that make any sense. Oh yea I always go buy Katy perry albums and DVDs and go to Katy perry msg boards and then tell people how much she sucks? Stupid stupid. If you don't like trey anymore or just not at all what are you doing here? We get angry cuz we want real legit reviews to be here so people who aren't familiar can get some good info. Instead it devolves into this weird thing where people who claim to be fans come and trash everything this guy does. It's getting real old. So I went to this show and the Portland one which there is not LP release of! Sux cuz Portland was a tiny bit better just setlist wise even. But I loved all of it. The electric sets were just that-electric. And I loved when trey did acoustic version of lawn boy and was joined by tony and Russ for a lounge act kind of vibe. But acoustic chalk dust was great amongst several other hi lights. And I think just maybe cuz they are used to doing two sets when the rest of the band comes out in this format they are just THAT much more energetic and excited to play finally. So it ends up being a real good time. Sorry for such long post but I needed to get off my chest. Thanks for understanding. Just so sick of looking at this shows reviews and seeing that crap and imagining a new fan reading it and thinking the negatiods speak for the majority which couldn't be farther from the truth. Leaving this show people were high as a kite on the energy from the music by itself not just drugs or alcohol! And everyone was mostly stoked about what they had just heard. That's what I'd like a new fan to know. Later to the true Phans."
