"I got to hit up this night and the last two, and despite the raw intensity of the NYE show, this was my favorite night of the run, hands f**kin down. I got my first contact this night and the break down jam was phunky good phun. The Free opener blew my mind, cause not one person i talked to outside the venue before the show guessed they would open the run with that. Honestly, a great choice on the boys part. And the Glide after was ridiculously tight. The possum is always a fun jam to hear, brought me back memories of the opening night of SuperBall. Always fun. The Cities was just dirty and groovin. I was ecstatic when they started playin that contact, cause i have never been able to catch a show where they played it before. And i am so glad, cause this was a great contact for my first. The sample made the girl next to me cry cause she was lovin the emotion in the jam so much. it was really awesome to see someone have raw emotion come through from a jam like that. Sample was pretty good for me, but that bug is what hit me in emotion. Hey, all you "real men" out there, it's ok to get emotional from a song like that, cause thats the point of bug, IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!! Gotta dig on the great vibes from that night, in and outside the venue. met some great new people, and i was really happy that all of em were able to at least go for the opener. The Birds and Carini startin of set 2 rocked the whole place. Although the Carini was no surprise to anyone who saw that Pete was workin the sound board for the first night. Always a good time when CARINIIIIIII's in the building. the jam on tweezer was crazy, especially when trey broke out 'The Streets of Cairo' on us. So dope. The tube and rocky top for the encore were crazy, always good to hear a rocky top, specially in NYC. And mikes bass drops in the Tweezer Reprise sounded like nukes goin off in MSG. I would like to add, that this was the only night that i felt the floor vibrate and move, like it does when the crowd really grooves. so glad i got to see this night, it made the other two a lot groovier for me. So awesome to see the boys rock the house hard again. Can't wait to see what awaits us in the summer. Hope anyone who was as lucky as i was to be able to see this night enjoyed it as much as i did. Cause this was the creme of the run, imo. "

" This was a tight show. This was a well played show. They came out very paced on night 1 and in a manner only a professional could: they methodically flowed through the set and turned the light switch on at MSG by the end of that bathtub Gin. The second set reminded me that birdsofafeather can really set the tone of a set for some focused destruction. Carini and Tweezer continued this dignified evil. Hood was also very nice and, as always, brought me a moment of divine peace. I really feel that Fishman in particulary (the whole band in fact) was really playing some of the best they have since their reunification. A lot of energy and rest and some possible practice prior to this night and they were really rolling through changes nicely and with that rich quality that digs deep. For me though the NICU TAKES THE CAKE. That song requires some serious syncopation! and they too often botch the tricky change from verse to chorus. not this night. it chugged like a train, with so much funk and spunk and pop and jump. i mean there are moments when mike and fish just blow my mind with their interplay. this was the version i think i've been waiting to hear. ALso, vocals sounded really nice this whole night(and the 29th). Fresh voices? maybe some warmup or practice in prior days as well.. and just cause you all drove me to this: i loved the placement and choice of BUG! its a smart, clever tune and, if its given the right attention, the chorus slides in quite naturally and the jam can really hit that nerve that phish tends to neglect. You know, i once brought a girlfriend to a show and we ended up slow dancing to Dirt. I realized that night that sometimes all the songs choices aren't to please the hungry rager with drugs and/or adrenaline on the brain. Also, the way people drink and party (esp. at festivals, new years, halloween)the band needs to slow shit down sometimes to give the audience a chance to renergize or there is no orgiastic back and forth that makes a good jam a good jam. Its like a parent monitoring a kids sugar intake. So love the slows songs for what they are: A chance to do something different for a minute. A chance for lovers to dance. A chance for you to examine why your manhood is so severely threatened by songs with emotional content played below 120 bpm. "
